Tata Group has retained the Indian Premier League 2024 title sponsorship rights from 2024 to 2028. These rights are retained by matching Aditya Birla Group’s bid of Rs 2500 crores, which is Rs 500 crores per year.
No Participants for IPL Season 2024
No participants, Aditya Birla Group was the only company to bid for the rights this year 2024. Tata Group could match any other offer because it had rights in the agreement signed between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Tata Group, the Economic Times reported.
On December 12, 2023, BCCI unleashed the tender for title sponsorship rights for the IPL seasons 2024-2028. BCCI has set the base price at Rs 1,750 crore over five years, or 350 crores per year for a total of 74 matches.
An IPL official confirmed Economic Times that Tata chose to use their right-to-match, as mentioned in the official document of the tender.
Since 2022, Tata Group has been the IPL’s Title sponsor and has paid Rs 670 crore for two-year rights. As per the last contract, Tata Group is paying the BCCI approximately 50 % more this time.
BCCI has advised bidders to apply for 84 and 94 matches at base prices of Rs 375 crore and Rs 400 crore, respectively.
Earlier back in tenure from the 2018-2022 period Vivo has secured the IPL title rights for Rs 440 crore per year. Nevertheless, BCCI has temporarily granted the rights to Dream 11 for 1 year at a discounted price.
Vivo made a comeback for the 2021 season and later on, Tata took charge, making a payment of around Rs 670 crore for two years.
Upcoming BCCI Plans
BCCI has plans to increase the number of matches to 84 in 2025 & 2026 and 94 matches in 2027 from the current format of 74 matches.
The Indian Premier League 2024 is set to commence on March 22. At the same time, Lok Sabha elections will be held between April and May. A top source from BCCI confirmed that the IPL will be played in India, unaffected by the Lok Sabha polls.
