Xiaomi, the giant Chinese smartphone maker stepped into the automobile industry by unveiling its first electric vehicle on 28th December 2023.
Xiaomi aims to be one of the top five automakers in the world.
Xiaomi’s chief executive Lei Jun trumpeted that the SU7 sedan SU short for Speed Ultra is a highly anticipated model having “super electric motor” technology capable of delivering acceleration speeds faster than Tesla cars and Porsche’s EVs.
Xiaomi’s new electric car is expected to launch within a few months in the market. According to the current scenario, it’s challenging for Xiaomi to launch the car in China’s largest auto market.
The reason behind the challenging time is, that there is excess production capacity but the demand for cars is decreasing leading to tough competition with lowered prices.
Despite facing these challenges, it didn’t stop Lei Jun from demarcating big ambitions.
At the launch event, Mr. Lei Jun said, In the upcoming next 15 to 20 years by working hard Xiaomi will become one of the world’s top 5 automakers, struggling to lift China’s overall automobile industry.
The plans include building a dream car comparable to Tesla and Porsche.
The new SUV7 electric car is expected to entice its customers as the car has a shared operating system with Xiaomi’s popular phones and other electronic devices.
Its drivers will have flawless access to the company’s existing portfolio of mobile apps.
Bill Russo, CEO of Shanghai-based advisory firm Automobility said, “Xiaomi is a well-established electronics brand with hundreds of millions of ‘Mi-Fans’ or members of its smart device ecosystem.
Xiaomi’s SU7 Car Specification
Xiaomi’s new SU7 driving range will come in two variants.
- 668 km on a single charge up to 415 miles.
- 800 km on a single charge.
- The car can speed up from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.78 seconds
- The car can lift a maximum speed of 265kmph.
BAIC Group, a unit of a state-owned automaker will produce Xiaomi-branded cars in Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles.
