Toyota Stops Delivery of Innova Crysta Fortuner due to Faulty Diesel Engine

Toyota is one of the top car brands in India

Toyota, one of the top car brands in India has temporarily suspended the shipment of its three models – Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux.

The reason behind the suspension is due to irregularities found in the certification test for the diesel engine.

Toyota Industries Corporation, a company affiliated with Toyota Motor Corporation announced on January 29, 2024, that irregularities in horsepower output certification were found on a total of 3 diesel engine models.

The variances revealed at affiliate Toyota Industries Corp pertain to torque and power curve smoothening.

Anomalies Limit

The anomalies concern the smoothing of power and torque curves but did not lead to any over-stating overclaims of horsepower, torque, or other powertrain-related issues as stated by the official spokesperson of Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

The company said that the problem does not impact the emissions or safety of the impacted vehicles.

Toyota is working with the appropriate authorities to re-confirm the data used for the certification of the impacted vehicles.

As such, in the case of Toyota Kirloskar Motor also the shipment of impacted vehicles will be temporarily put on hold, the automaker noted.

After that, we will go ahead with the registration and delivery for the customers who choose to receive their vehicles, it added.

Company Statement ongoing issue

The company officials further stated “ We would like to reassure our present customers by stating that they believe their vehicles are not impacted by these irregularities, as this did not result in any variations in horsepower or other powertrain-related values.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors sincerely regrets any inconvenience and concern this irregularity may cause to our customers and other stakeholders, it said.

An estimate suggests one-third of Toyota Kirloskar Motors sales in India come from Fortuner, Innova Crysta, and Hilux.

Ten models use the impacted engines globally, including six in Japan.
