Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphone series was launched on January 17, 2024, stepping into the future of technology and innovation with the all-new flagship.
Samsung Galaxy S24 has a power pack with such super-advanced features and AI integration that the latest S24 smartphone redefines what a smartphone can do.
This time Samsung has taken an alternative method for the launch of its new Galaxy S24 smartphone lineup in China compared to other markets.
Samsung has replaced Google’s AI capabilities and partnered exclusively with Chinese tech firm Baidu to power the AI features based on Gemini foundational models like AI-based real-time call translation etc according to a CNBC report.
This Samsung and Baidu alliance was highlighted during the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in China. The alliance issued a joint statement focusing on the Chinese version of the Galaxy S24 will leverage Baidu’s Ernie chatbot technology.
Ernie will enable Text summarisations, AI translations, and other productivity features on the new devices.
Samsung typically uses Google’s Gemini AI for its global launches, but now the company’s focus on Baidu represents a big change. Samsung is favoring Baidu because Google has a limited presence and services in China, mainly due to government restrictions.
Chinese officials permitted Baidu to use Ernie AI last year, after unveiling the chatbot in 2021. Ernie debuted in October 2023, and Baidu says Ernie can do well, or even better than Google’s new GPT-4 in regions like language understanding and text generation.
Ernie chatbot is driven by AI technology that’s able to generate human-like responses when users ask questions.
The competitors of Ernie like ChatGPT and a barrage of AL models from US-based tech giants like Bard, Gemini, and LLaMA forced Chinese tech companies to invent their own large language models.
Samsung wants to showcase its teamwork with top AI companies in each market, but it’s challenging for the company to revive its sales in China.
Homegrown brands like Vivo and Oppo now completely control the smartphone market in China.
