PMPML Ties with Adani Group to set up EV Charging Stations in Pune

The PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited PMPL) has awarded the tender to the Adani group to set up seven electric vehicle charging stations in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to attenuate carbon emissions and generate non-traffic revenue.

PMPL, a major public service provider in Pune exceeding one million passengers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad faced financial hindrance, reporting a deficit of Rs 1000 crore in the previous fiscal year.

To broaden revenue streams, PMPML commenced a tender process for private EV charging stations within its premises drawing bids from various companies.

Adani Group was the leading participant in this competitive bidding, showing a strong commitment to support and grow PMPML’s revenue.

PMPML’s official states an area of around 1,200 square feet has been allotted to Adani Group to install the EV charging stations at Hinjewadi Phase 2, Bhosari, Nigdi, Katraj, Baner-Sus Road, Pulgate and Deccan Gymkhana.

This location aims to provide 24-hour charging facilities for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers.

EV Charging Station Tender

The spokesperson of PMPML Mr. Satish Gate said the tender was allocated to Adani with the highest bid, denoted as H1. Of the seven that are chosen for EV charging stations one location is Baner-Sus Road has served as an amenity space, providing Adani with the chance to explore renewable energy options, including solar power generation.

For the construction and management of the charging stations, PMPML will receive in return 32.5% of the generated income further its financial durability.

Based on the agreement, PMPML will offer space and power supply while Adani Group will be responsible for the infrastructure development.

The power supply to the Hinjewadi charging station has been fulfilled, now the Adani Group will proceed with deploying the charging stations, as stated by the official spokesperson.

EV Charging Stations Facilities

One of the technical team member from PMPML mentioned that the project is a step towards eco-friendly projects and sustainability.

Focusing on the increasing number of electric vehicles in the city, the technical team member further said “The charging stations will be strategically installed in busy and popular locations of Pune where users can easily obtain the charging services.

As per the RTO data, since 2023 33,411 electric vehicles have been registered in Pune as compared to the year before when 25,625 EVs were registered.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has proffered Adani Group a tariff for the charging station, and it is notably less than the commercial rate.

Nishikant Raut, public relations officer of MSEDCL said, Adani Group will receive electric supply at the rate of Rs. 7.25 per unit, comprising both the 6.08 energy charges and Rs 1.17 electricity transport charges from a power plant to a user which is also called wheeling charges   

Considering that there might be certain hurdles that can delay the project, Mr. Satish Gate said the project will completed within the given estimated time frame of six months.
