iOS 18 Update:
In the current tech industry, AI is one of the most significant crucial topics. Nearly all the major technology industries from open AI to Microsoft, Google, and Meta are focusing on integrating new AI features into their product lines.
Last year in 2023, Google revealed its Pixel 8 series with a focus on AI-powered features, and this year in 2024 Samsung announced AI features for its Galaxy S24 series.
The California-based Tech giant Apple launched its iPhone 15 series last year with major upgrades but made no announcement featuring AI technology.
But now according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is ready to announce the iOS 18 update in June 2024 and is reportedly preparing for a significant leap in AI announcements, bringing tons of new AI-centric features for iPhones.
Also, Apple’s recent decision to allow third-party apps, browsers, and payment gateways on iPhone marks a big change in Apple’s long-term future strategy driven by the need to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).
These new changes in the iPhone can be seen as possibly through the new iOS 18 update.
The company is adding new features to the iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update and states further that these new features will be available only for the European region initially.
Apple is expected to offer some of these features worldwide by the end of 2024 with iOS 18 update.
Gurman’s latest Power on Newsletter unveiled that iOS 18 will give a much-needed major update that aims to fulfill many longstanding requests from users developers and regulators.
iOS 18 update will be an enhanced use of generative AI, making Siri smarter and more competent.
Earlier it was reported Apple might use an LLM (Large Language Model) for Siri, which would enable it to handle complicated tasks.
Gurman reports that Apple’s software engineer chief Craig Federighi informed his staff last year that the OS codenamed Crystal will have ambitious changes across the board.
Let’s have a look at iOS 18 biggest updates
- Siri will be smarter and more intelligent and use a new AI system that includes LLM model technology.
- Messages app will contain AI features that can answer questions and complete sentences.
- Apple Music will have AI features that can create automatically generated playlists.
- Smart Features for iWork apps like Pages and Keynotes using Generative AI.
- Special features in XCode that use smart AI to help developers write new applications faster.
Even though Apple hasn’t officially confirmed yet, based on past releases and keeps secrets until the launch, we’ll probably only get a snap view of iOS 18, including its non-AI features during the World Wide Developer Conference.
