Public Investment Board have given nod to Airport Authority of India (AAI) to install full body scanner with a aim to emphasize security procedures at four airports across the nation.

It includes…

  1. Pune
  2. Goa
  3. Chennai
  4. Kolkata

Ones this full body scanners security procedure gets success it will be extended to other parts of Indian airport as per officials.

Various aspects were discussed during this meeting such as installation, personnel training, procurement, and operational procedure.

This new full-body scanner machine makes use of millimeter-wave technology and are designed in such a way that it detects camouflage objects based on human contours, enhancing security checks as said by officials.

The government has opened a tender in July to toilsome 131-full body scanners, as it will cut-down the average passenger checkup time from current 30 seconds to 15 seconds. But the tender was withdrawn later as it needed acceptance from Public Investment Board.

The 131 full body scanners machines were planned to install at Amritsar, Goa, Tirupati, Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Bhopal, Chennai, Varanasi etc.

The meeting which involved Bureau of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Civil Aviation stakeholders who are into safety and security of airports was at a conclusion that instead of setting new body scanner machines at PAN India airports as per original plan Public Investment Board gave clearance for only four airports which have maximum footfall of passengers among other airports for the start.

Once this 4 airports activity gets success then will be implemented for PAN India airports.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Home Minister Amit Shah and officials of other various department had a meeting recently in July this year where they discussed plans to dilate capacity as well as labour force at airports.

Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal, Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials, Central Industrial Security  Force, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security officials also attended the meeting.
