It seems there is no relief for App-based Taxi service Uber and Goan people. Uber is trying to stretch its legs in Goa for a long time, but the local taxi operator in Goa are opposing it.
Now once again Goa is in the news for the same conflict between its sole app-based taxi service Goa Miles, and local taxi services.
Launch of Uber
Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Pramod Sawant last year speaking in Goa Assembly expressed his support for introducing a cab-hailing service. Mr. Sawant urges all the MLAs to support the belief assuring them he would gain the confidence of all the stakeholders involved.
Currently Uber has officially launched its functioning taxi service in Goa. Currently, the service is active for Airport pickups and drop-offs only and in premium category rides only.
As the service gets adhesion and popularity it will expand its services to more areas in Goa.
Govt to Block Uber Services
The Goa state government on Monday inhibited blocking the services of Uber taxi from functioning in the state two days later when the cab aggregator launched its service.
Uber Taxi is operating its services in the city without any official sanction or information to the Transport department, so a formal complaint was filed with Goa police’s cyber-crime cell for illegally operating.
The complaint states to block Uber services and also take legal action under the Information Technology Act filed by the transport department.
Uber hasn’t taken any licenses from the Transport Ministry for app-base taxi service and he has even evinced that it is providing the services in Goa, the Transport Director of Goa said in it statement.
The complaint further states the transport department has asked the Police department to block Uber services and initiate actions under the IT laws.
Currently, the Uber taxi services were active from the airport route Dabolim Airport and the new Manohar International Airport at Mopa.
In the past, there has been strong vicious agitations and even physical intimidation by Uber taxis and local taxi union.
