Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the central government had earlier halted the payment of DA and DR for 18 months from January 2020 to June 2021.

Here is a big update for Central Government employees who were waiting for an announcement on the DA hike and 18 months arrears. These two gifts will lead to huge salary hikes for central government employees.

A letter has been written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the dearness allowance suspended for 18 months during the COVID pandemic for central government employees and pensioners as per a report by Economic Times.

Mukesh Singh, General Secretary of Bhartiya Pratiksha Mazdoor Sangh has written a letter to Mrs. Sitharaman about releasing DA arrears of 18 months.

Pankaj Chaudhary, Ministry of State in Ministry of Finance earlier in Lok Sabha had said that arrears of DR/DA which are mostly related to the challenging FY of 2020-21 are not regarded as viable due to adverse financial consequences of the pandemic in 2020 and the funding of the welfare measures applied by the government having a fiscal spillover beyond FY 2020-21.

What Is Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief?

DA, in short, is a part your of salary that is aimed at easing the impact of inflation. The salaries are revised periodically to cope with price escalation. The central government revised the DA twice a year in January and July.

The latest Dearness Relief for central government pensioners and the latest Dearness Allowance for Central Government employees was given a hike from 42% to 46%. The new hike is applicable from July 1, 2023.

How Much DA Hike Expected?

The DA of central government employees is expected to be hiked by 4% and may be approved in March and will be paid in April.

The new DA hike will be effective from January 1, 2024.

Once the hike is approved the central government employees will get three month’s money in a lump sum.
