Maruti Brezza

Maruti Brezza CNG:

Maruti SUV segment will have a new variant in the Indian automobile industry. As fuel prices are rising in India, people have pulled back their hands from investing in the automotive sector.

The automotive sector is also coming with varied options for its customers and making the most efforts to save their losing interest due to soaring oil prices.

One of the most successful and Indian’s favorite automotive brand Maruti Suzuki has come up with CNG variant in of it best-selling car Brezza in SUV segment.

Vitara Brezza CNG

Maruti Brezza the compact SUV remains always been in demand since its launch back in 2016 generating an average sale of 12-13k sales every month.

Brezza has knocked Ford EcoSport and has shown consistency in topping the monthly sales chart for a long time in spite of competition with other SUV brands.

Maruti Suzuki discontinued the 1.3-liter DDiS 200 four-cylinder diesel engine to build for 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15B petrol engine with mild hybrid technology upon the launch of BS6 emissions by the government.

Maruti Brezza CNG Leaked Specifications:

A new Spy image has now leaked the technical specifications across the internet revealing what the CNG variant would be.

The subcompact SUV will feature the same 1.5-liter K15 naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is the same engine that other Maruti variants like Ciaz, S-Cross, XL-6, and Ertiga run.

In CNG specification power output will be a bit lower at 91 bhp at 600rpm and 122 Nm. It will either be a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter.

Maruti said it’s hoping that the CNG variant will indeed help in expanding the compact SUV’s range in near future.

CNG Future in Indian Automobile Market

Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director of Maruti Suzuki had said in an interview with Times Drive that many car makers in India have introduced EV vehicles to exemplify cleaner technologies, but the number of sales is low while diesel vehicles still rack up a substantial chunk of sales.

He further said it is important to look at cleaner fuels like CNG as long as EV cost doesn’t come down. This is the reason why Maruti Suzuki is investing more in the CNG segment instead of EV vehicles.

According to Srivastava Maruti has sold 1,58,000 CNG cars in India last year as opposed to 1,06,000 CNG cars in 2019 in spite of low sales in India.

Maruti Suzuki currently has more than 5 CNG variants in its passenger vehicles and aspires to have more CNG variants in near future.

Current CNG Variants:

  1. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
  2. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
  3. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
  4. Maruti Suzuki Celerio
  5. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
  6. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
  7. Maruti Suzuki Eeco
  8. Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour

Shashank further said India currently has over 3,500 CNG stations in over 300 cities of the country this has attracted people towards the CNG segment instead of diesel and prosaic petrol vehicles.

The share of diesel cars in the Hatchback segment was less than 0.2% last year and sedans were around 6%.

Indian automotive market has varied options for Indian buyers in different car variants.
