HMD Global is allegedly planning to launch a smartphone under its own brand name for the first time and a purported image of the handset has now surfaced online.

Until now the Finnish company has been launching smartphones under the Nokia brand, but now the way the according to new design of the mobile with a new HMD logo on the rear panel suggests this might change soon.

91 Mobiles has posted an image of HMD’s purported N159V phone, sourced from anonymous industry sources.

The smartphone is displayed in a black colorway with a dual rear camera module with an LED flash. The HMD logo is apparent in the center of the phone’s back panel and there’s no other branding visible anywhere on the smartphone.

While the market is still unaware of what HMD plans to brand its name for its first smartphone with model number N159V

HMD Design & Specification

The smartphone looks like it will come with a plastic back panel and power volume buttons appear to be located on the right side of the phone.

In a leak evince HMD’s first phone is shown to sport a flat display. The evince of the smartphone also suggests that it will come up with a front-facing camera for selfies and video chats that is situated in a centre-aligned hole punch cutout at the top of the screen.

The evince does not disclose whether the phone will be equipped with a 3.55mm audio jack at the top or the bottom of the phone.

As we have heard many times the company plans to launch HMD-branded devices. HMD Global CEO Jean-Francois Baril announced last September that the Finnish firm would soon enlarge its product portfolio with smartphones released under the HMD brand.

The Finnish Firm has been marketing Nokia-branded phones globally since 2016.
